JOGS (Job Opportunities for GLOBE Scholars)
Do you hire high school students? Do you want to meet the most industrious people in this age group? Then you need to participate in a program called Job Opportunities for GLOBE Scholars (JOGS).
JOGS encourages students to take the Texas Scholars curriculum by arranging interviews with local businesses. Modeled after job placement offices common to college campuses, each local high school has one interview day in the spring when participating businesses can conduct 15 to 20 minute on-campus interviews with students who are on track to become Texas scholars.
JOGS creates a win-win-win situation for the businesses, students and schools. The businesses benefit by having a chance to meet excellent prospective employees, even if there are no job openings at the time. The businesses are not obligated to hire any of the interviewees, but are encouraged to keep the applications in case openings occur in the future. The students benefit from the interview experience regardless of job prospects because the employer completes an evaluation sheet after each interview that is given to the student. Lastly, the schools benefit because businesses help reinforce the message that the curriculum a student takes in high school is important to future job prospects.
