Early Intervention

Currently, many students and their parents are first introduced to Texas Scholars during the 8th grade presentation "Great Expectations/Great Rewards" immediately prior to the planning session that maps out their high school curriculum. The objective of the Early Intervention Committee is to promote parent and student understanding of the Texas Scholars program during grades 1-7 to complement the current 8th grade presentations. For the past two years, the Early Intervention Committee has been collaborating with Junior Achievement of East Texas by incorporating the Texas Scholars message into existing Junior Achievement 5th grade programs delivered by volunteers at Spring Hill and Longview Independent School Districts. In the 2003 - 2004 school year, the Texas Scholars information was included in the Junior Achievement's 7th grade program. In addition, area counselors assisted the committee with development of an age-appropriate presentation for use by counselors to introduce the reasons for and the benefits of a challenging high school curriculum to 5th graders and their parents.
